About Maximum Nursery

Winfred Van Wingerden, a tenth generation farmer, is the owner of Maximum Nursery Inc. located in the bountiful Carpinteria Valley. Over forty years ago, Winfred’s father, John Van Wingerden migrated with his family from Holland to Carpinteria and bought six acres of land. John and his brothers built a few greenhouses and began growing carnations and chrysanthemums.

In 1977 Winfred and brother Edward, both California Polytechnic State University students, posted a competition for the best name for their father’s nursery on campus. The winning entry “Maximum Nursery Inc.” was adopted. A few years later, Winfred joined Maximum, working side by side with father John for ten years during which Winfred learned the business and industry inside and out.

In 1982 John and Winfred switched the mums with gerbera daisies making Maximum one of the very first commercial gerbera daisy growers in the United States. Maximum Nursery combines innovative technology and packaging with friendly service at a competitive price. We are proud to supply our wholesale and mass market customers with over one hundred varieties of quality gerbera daisies and a vast assortment of germinis, anthurium and field flowers.
